SYIP Cafe Food Review

It's been long since I visited a cafe with my friends! This cafe looks very minimalistic and new. The food is good too! These mains were shared among the 4 of us.

1. My favourite main: Creamy Chicken Scrambled Egg Croissant ($16)
+soft buttery scrambled eggs
+creamy mushroom with chicken bits (looks like swiss mushrooms)
+crispy and soft croissant (I think it came cut into 4 pieces?)
+I think all these three ingredients complement well with each other!
+My friends like this dish too
-bits of baby spinach

Taste Verdict: 5/5
Price Verdict: 4.5/5

The stars beside the menu means is their signature. We ordered the burrata open-faced toast, ikura kombu capellini and mentaiko fries.

The coffee bean means it has caffeine. We ordered the dirty matcha, black sesame latter and oolong tea.
2. Burrata open-faced toast ($22)
-sourdough bread (yes I guessed correctly that it was sourdough bread because of a slight sour taste, though my friends doubt so. The bread was very wet and I think it was because of the water from the burrata. )
+burrata (I've always wanted to try burrata which is an Italian cheese. My friends thought that this was egg white! The burrata was quite bland but this was my first time trying burrata so I shall not comment further.
+caramelised onions (my friend thought this was jellyfish)
+cherry tomato confit
+kale (this is expensive and nutritious veggie on the toast :) )
+red radish (where is this?)
+really nice arrangement of flowers
-veggies on the side had this familiar citrusy sauce that Collin's also use

Taste Verdict: 3/5 because bread was really wet
Price Verdict: 2/5

3. Ikura Kombu Capellini ($16)
+capellini (slightly thicker than angel hair pasta)
+sakura ebi
+shio kombu (aka seaweed)
+ikura
+I really like this combination and it was very flavourful and slightly spicy. It's actually better than the capellini that I ate at Saveur Ion.
+the capellini was carefully and nicely plated. Throwback to the days when I watched my chefs plating this with chopsticks.
-my friend was disappointed by this main because she thought it would be better

Taste Verdict: 4/5
Price Verdict: 3.5/5

4. Mentaiko Fries ($10)
+flavouful
-slightly salty
+served hot and before mains
+good for sharing among 4 people

Taste Verdict: 4/5
Price Verdict: 4/5

5. Dirty Matcha ($6.50)
+smooth matcha taste
-no taste of coffee ( I wanted to try this because it should have a shot of espresso or it could be the person mixed up matcha latte and dirty matcha. I wonder what kind of matcha did they use. )

Taste Verdict: 4/5
Price Verdict: 3.5/5 ( I think they served me the wrong matcha drink.)

6. Black Sesame Latte ($6.50)
+strong aromatic coffee
+good combination with black sesame

Taste Verdict: 4/5
Price Verdict: 4/5

7. Dong Ding Oolong ($5)
+nice cups and plates
-my friends said this did not taste like oolong tea but I think it's because it's Dong Ding. It has a toasted nutty flavour.

+Very nice white walls and Christmas tree
+there is also a toilet here
The cashier and drinks-making section are at the front of the cafe.
They used a local Singapore brand for ceramic plates and cups.

The GST and service charges are enough to pay for another main.
We came out and saw this crowd around 1pm+.
We came around 12pm on a weekday.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and ambience but it was slightly noisy.

Nearest MRT: Farrer Park
Address: 79 Owen Rd, Singapore 218895
Opening Hours: 9am-6pm except Monday

How to prepare for NUS QET (Qualifying English Test)

I'm sharing my study tips because I could not find much before I did the test. There were no useful guides in helping me in QET test back then in 2018 so I thought of writing this blog post.  What is NUS QET? It is an English essay test which tests your English proficiency. The paper is 1h 30min long and it takes place at NUS on a single day. Who takes NUS QET? Those who got D and below for Alevels General Paper (that's me!), polytechnic and foreign students. I scored well in GP in school but I didn't do well in Alevels. I got an E for Alevels. Why take NUS QET? You must take QET to graduate from the school and complete English modules if you fail the test. Why you should pass QET? This is because there are a lot of people bidding for the English module and as a newbie, you would not have enough points to compete with those seniors. Taking an English module also disallows you from taking other electives because it can overload your MCs. How's my result? ...

Prima Deli Pandan Waffles Recipe

My favorite waffles are Prima Deli's Waffles. It's soft, addictive, and smells so fragrant so I am trying to find the recipe. Coconut milk is crucial to making pandan waffles so do get coconut milk!  1. Youtube Vasudevan Suganthi 1 1/2 cup plain flour  3/4 cup caster sugar  1 1/2 tsp baking powder  1/2 tsp salt 2 eggs 3 tbsp butter pandan paste 200ml coconut milk  My verdict: It does taste similar to Prima deli's waffles but it is not as fluffy or soft.  Something seems lacking.  page views as of 6/8/23 I ate my waffles with chopsticks out of convenience 😂 Tell me that you are Asian without telling me you are Asian 2. Sherbakes Pandan Waffles 125g all-purpose flour  50g caster sugar  2tsp baking powder  1/8 tsp salt  1 egg 1/2 tsp green pandan taste  200ml coconut milk  60g unsalted butter (melted) My verdict: This taste differs much from Prima Deli's waffles. The mixture is thick and viscous but Prima deli's waffles mix...

How to prepare for NUS Nursing Interview

page views as of 6/8/23 Hello prospective nurses, so you want to be a nurse? It may have been a difficult decision to be a nurse and hence I would like to help you and share tips on how to prepare for this interview.  For those currently studying in poly and Alevel, study well so you will not have to go for this interview.  What are the chances of entering NUS Nursing?  Most people think that Nursing is very easy to get in because of the low IGP score and nurses are in high demand. As long as you are sincere, it is high likely that you get in. If your IGP is below 10 percentile, no worries because you can still get in.  Fun Fact: In 2017, there were 2200 applications and 235 people were accepted into the course. This is  10.6% of the people who applied. Nus Nursing acceptance rate thus is 10.6% but it is expected to rise due to the high demand for nurses.  When was the interview? I was scheduled for a nursing interview in the first week of A...
