Atlas Coffeehouse Cafe Review

Came back here with my friend to try its Butterscotch banana pancakes! We took the bar seats.
ATLAS means At-Land-Air-Sea which explains for its white and blue walls.

This is the brunch menu and apparently, some food prices have increased.

These were the butterscotch banana pancakes that we tried! It cost $19.80.
It consists of banana, butterscotch sauce, cornflake crunchies, and vanilla ice cream.
+fluffy dense large pancakes
+crispy cornflakes
+cold vanilla ice cream
+sweet butterscotch sauce
-too much for one person so good to share with 2-3 people
-can be too sweet for people who don't eat sweets
-bananas taste a bit unripe
-need to eat faster because the ice cream is melting
-pancakes are cooked on a skillet and cooled down before putting on the ice cream

How to make it?
Butterscotch sauce is made with brown sugar, unsalted butter, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract.
The pancakes are most probably cooked under low heat as they are unusually large so extra care is needed to not burn them. This could be the reason why the pancakes took at least 20 minutes to be served. When I make small pancakes, it can be easy to burn them.
Bananas are sliced and cameralised to place on top of the pancakes.
The white flakes could be powdered sugar for garnish.

We also tried the salmon soba bowl which consists of poached salmon, soy shimeji, furikake crispy egg, greek nori yogurt, and soy soba. It cost $19.30.
+surprising combination of greek yogurt and salmon
+furikake consists of kombu, katsuobushi, white sesame seeds, black sesame seeds which gives an umami flavour
+bright orange flowy egg yolk which shows that the egg is nutrient-dense and the chickens could have been fed corn. I personally like to poke egg yolks and eat them with rice/noodles.
+poached salmon gives an interesting chewy tender texture. I was discussing with my friend if this salmon could be half raw or half-cooked but turned out that it was fully cooked. Unlike frozen salmon that has a hard texture, this salmon is tender and moist.
+greek nori yogurt is also an interesting combination. The greek yogurt gives a tantalizing sour taste and tastes interesting with the salmon.
+soba was cooked with soya sauce which tasted more flavourful than the one we had at Populus.
+can taste bits of ginger

This is the drinks menu.

My friend ordered the cappuccino which cost $5.40.
It tasted less sweet than other cappuccino.
Next time, I would personally order the milky way.
How to make it?
A blend of Brazilian and Guatemala coffee beans and pasteurized Meiji low fat/fresh milk.
If you would like to have soy milk, they use Happy Happy Soy Boy Soy Milk.
Oat milk option is likely to be OTIS 1L Barista Oat M!lk.
However, I was concerned about how long has the milk be left out at room temperature.

I was chatting with my friend and thinking if I would get to see celebrities like bellywellyjelly here because I know that she does like to come here to have her coffee. Fortunately, I did run into her.

Overall, it is a good cafe just that some food is a tad pricey. It is also a pet-friendly cafe with many people bringing their beloved dogs for brunch. Total damage was $19.55.

Inspired by the salmon bowl, I bought this bonito furikake from Don Don Donki. ($1.90)

It tasted similar but more on the sweeter side.
There were also many different varieties of soba sold.

I tried to recreate the pancake using the Cooking with Dog recipe but this did not taste like the one in Atlas. It is still a good pancake but tasted bland.

Cooking with Dog recipe
100g cake flour
1tsp baking powder
1 egg
3 tbsp sugar (I used brown sugar)
70ml milk (I used soy milk)
2 tsp vegetable oil
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

How to prepare for NUS QET (Qualifying English Test)

I'm sharing my study tips because I could not find much before I did the test. There were no useful guides in helping me in QET test back then in 2018 so I thought of writing this blog post.  What is NUS QET? It is an English essay test which tests your English proficiency. The paper is 1h 30min long and it takes place at NUS on a single day. Who takes NUS QET? Those who got D and below for Alevels General Paper (that's me!), polytechnic and foreign students. I scored well in GP in school but I didn't do well in Alevels. I got an E for Alevels. Why take NUS QET? You must take QET to graduate from the school and complete English modules if you fail the test. Why you should pass QET? This is because there are a lot of people bidding for the English module and as a newbie, you would not have enough points to compete with those seniors. Taking an English module also disallows you from taking other electives because it can overload your MCs. How's my result? ...

Prima Deli Pandan Waffles Recipe

My favorite waffles are Prima Deli's Waffles. It's soft, addictive, and smells so fragrant so I am trying to find the recipe. Coconut milk is crucial to making pandan waffles so do get coconut milk!  1. Youtube Vasudevan Suganthi 1 1/2 cup plain flour  3/4 cup caster sugar  1 1/2 tsp baking powder  1/2 tsp salt 2 eggs 3 tbsp butter pandan paste 200ml coconut milk  My verdict: It does taste similar to Prima deli's waffles but it is not as fluffy or soft.  Something seems lacking.  page views as of 6/8/23 I ate my waffles with chopsticks out of convenience 😂 Tell me that you are Asian without telling me you are Asian 2. Sherbakes Pandan Waffles 125g all-purpose flour  50g caster sugar  2tsp baking powder  1/8 tsp salt  1 egg 1/2 tsp green pandan taste  200ml coconut milk  60g unsalted butter (melted) My verdict: This taste differs much from Prima Deli's waffles. The mixture is thick and viscous but Prima deli's waffles mix...

How to prepare for NUS Nursing Interview

page views as of 6/8/23 Hello prospective nurses, so you want to be a nurse? It may have been a difficult decision to be a nurse and hence I would like to help you and share tips on how to prepare for this interview.  For those currently studying in poly and Alevel, study well so you will not have to go for this interview.  What are the chances of entering NUS Nursing?  Most people think that Nursing is very easy to get in because of the low IGP score and nurses are in high demand. As long as you are sincere, it is high likely that you get in. If your IGP is below 10 percentile, no worries because you can still get in.  Fun Fact: In 2017, there were 2200 applications and 235 people were accepted into the course. This is  10.6% of the people who applied. Nus Nursing acceptance rate thus is 10.6% but it is expected to rise due to the high demand for nurses.  When was the interview? I was scheduled for a nursing interview in the first week of A...
