Here is a 5D4N Ho Chi Minh City Itinerary from Singapore to Ho Chi Minh

Ho Chi Minh City was previously known as Saigon.
Ho Chi Minh City is located in the southern part of Vietnam while Hanoi is located in the northern part of Vietnam.

A tank during the Vietnam war

What is the best time to go to Ho Chi Minh City?
We came to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in February 2024.
It is best to come here during the dry season, December-April.

Ho Chi Minh weather?
The weather here is very hot and dry, similar to Singapore.

What is the currency used in Vietnam?
Vietnam uses Vietnamese Dong and cash is preferred.
You can use USD at the airport.
SGD to Vietnamese Dong is SGD divided by 18. E.g. 60,000 VND is SGD 3.33

Do you need to tip?
It would be nice to tip.
We gave tips since we came here during their Lunar New Year holiday.

Visa requirement?
There is no visa required for Singaporeans. Other nationalities might need visas.

Data and wifi?
You can purchase an e-sim.

Flight taken
TR302 and TR303 Scoot Airlines, a subsidiary airline under Singapore Airlines
The flight took 2 hours and it cost $536 for 2 person round-trip, $268/pax.

Basic language
Hello - Xin Chao
Thank you - Gan en

Accommodation
There were a lot of cheap backpacker hotels and hostels around 23/9 Park.
I would recommend booking a hotel around here as it would be easier for the tour bus to pick you up.

As the IPeace hotel was overbooked, we last minute booked H Best Hostel Cafe Saigon.
It costs $86 for 4 nights, $21.5/night. The stay was alright. The hostel uses a 2-pin electric plug.
The tour guide said the richer citizens stay at District 1 here while poorer citizens stay at the other districts.

Day 1
6pm Arrival at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport (Ho Chi Minh airport)
Take bus 109 to 23/9 Park (45 min)

7pm We had dinner at Hello Saigon Restaurant.

Day 2:
We had some Banh Mi and Pho at Pho Quynh for breakfast before the tour.
We booked a half-day Klook tour to Cu Chi Tunnels. Click here to find out more at Klook.

the tunnel was small

tapioca

After the tour, the tour bus dropped us at the Cafe apartment along with other tourists.

Address: 42 Đ. Nguyễn Huệ, Street, Quận 1, Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh 700000, Vietnam
I heard the elevator cost a fee, just take the stairs!

We got the egg coffee at Madam Quyen. The egg coffee tasted like tiramisu!

Bun cha was really good.

4pm We went to Saigon Zoo

1 adult only 60,000 VND, SGD $3.33

many cute animals and a fun amusement park to play

Day 3:
We booked a day tour on Klook to the Mekong River. Click here to find out more at Klook.

Vinh Trang Pagoda

Riding a small boat along the Mekong River

complimentary lunch

At around 6pm, the tour bus dropped us at Ben Thanh Market
Ben Thanh Market has a lot of bags, shoes, clothes, and souvenirs if you are interested in shopping.

We stopped by a Michelin Pho restaurant, it was underwhelming. Roadside pho tasted better.
Phở Việt Nam (District 1)

Day 4:

Brunch at The Workshop Coffee (Highly recommend)

the Egg's benedict was good and only cost SGD 8 (3 times cheaper than in SG)
the Carbonara was good too

We did some shopping at the supermarket in the Vincom Mega Mall.

Coffee shopping at the supermarket

Lunch at Coastal Saigon for a Valentine's date

Stylish designs at Rechic

Day 5:

We ate breakfast and went for last day shopping. We went to Takashimaya at Saigon Centre and Van hanh mall

How to prepare for NUS QET (Qualifying English Test)

I'm sharing my study tips because I could not find much before I did the test. There were no useful guides in helping me in QET test back then in 2018 so I thought of writing this blog post.  What is NUS QET? It is an English essay test which tests your English proficiency. The paper is 1h 30min long and it takes place at NUS on a single day. Who takes NUS QET? Those who got D and below for Alevels General Paper (that's me!), polytechnic and foreign students. I scored well in GP in school but I didn't do well in Alevels. I got an E for Alevels. Why take NUS QET? You must take QET to graduate from the school and complete English modules if you fail the test. Why you should pass QET? This is because there are a lot of people bidding for the English module and as a newbie, you would not have enough points to compete with those seniors. Taking an English module also disallows you from taking other electives because it can overload your MCs. How's my result? ...

Prima Deli Pandan Waffles Recipe

My favorite waffles are Prima Deli's Waffles. It's soft, addictive, and smells so fragrant so I am trying to find the recipe. Coconut milk is crucial to making pandan waffles so do get coconut milk!  1. Youtube Vasudevan Suganthi 1 1/2 cup plain flour  3/4 cup caster sugar  1 1/2 tsp baking powder  1/2 tsp salt 2 eggs 3 tbsp butter pandan paste 200ml coconut milk  My verdict: It does taste similar to Prima deli's waffles but it is not as fluffy or soft.  Something seems lacking.  page views as of 6/8/23 I ate my waffles with chopsticks out of convenience 😂 Tell me that you are Asian without telling me you are Asian 2. Sherbakes Pandan Waffles 125g all-purpose flour  50g caster sugar  2tsp baking powder  1/8 tsp salt  1 egg 1/2 tsp green pandan taste  200ml coconut milk  60g unsalted butter (melted) My verdict: This taste differs much from Prima Deli's waffles. The mixture is thick and viscous but Prima deli's waffles mix...

How to prepare for NUS Nursing Interview

page views as of 6/8/23 Hello prospective nurses, so you want to be a nurse? It may have been a difficult decision to be a nurse and hence I would like to help you and share tips on how to prepare for this interview.  For those currently studying in poly and Alevel, study well so you will not have to go for this interview.  What are the chances of entering NUS Nursing?  Most people think that Nursing is very easy to get in because of the low IGP score and nurses are in high demand. As long as you are sincere, it is high likely that you get in. If your IGP is below 10 percentile, no worries because you can still get in.  Fun Fact: In 2017, there were 2200 applications and 235 people were accepted into the course. This is  10.6% of the people who applied. Nus Nursing acceptance rate thus is 10.6% but it is expected to rise due to the high demand for nurses.  When was the interview? I was scheduled for a nursing interview in the first week of A...
